Mangus runs at state indoor track meet

Fairfield senior Michael Mangus ran the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (OATCCC) Indoor Track and Field State Championship held at the University of Akron on Saturday, March 8.

Mangus finished fourth in the 1600m and runner-up in the 3200m.

Mangus' time in the 1600m was 4:30.04, and after 45 minutes of rest, he ran the 3200m in 9:42.78.

He was edged out by Matt Bromley, Division II State cross-country champion, who won with a time of 9:41.72.

"Michael had an impressive indoor track season and lowered his PR to 4:29 in the 1600 and 9:29 in the 3200," coach Bill Mangus said. "To lose by only a second to the Division II State cross-county champion who only ran one race should bode well for a strong outdoor track season."

To be eligible to compete in this meet, athletes must be ranked as one of the Top 16 in an event.

Indoor track was recently approved as a club sport by the Fairfield school board.
