Mangus, Fairfield win '11 boys Highland County Invitational

LEESBURG — The Fairfield Lions defended their Highland County Invitational championship, and sophomore Michael Mangus led the way as he was the winner of the 2011 Highland County Invitational Tuesday at Fairfield High School.

Mangus won with a time of 16:33.71 for first place, followed by Hillsboro's Collin Rothwell at 16:47.10 for second place.

The Lions had three of the top five runners in the invitational.
 
The rest of the Top 10 included: 3, Blake Hildebrant (FHS) 17:21.80; 4, Caleb Mootispaw (MHS) 17:48.40; 5, John Cain (FHS) 18:06.90; 6, Jeremiah Savage (MHS) 18:18.11; 7, Nathan Boone (HHS) 18:20.50; 8, Deandre Steward (HHS) 18:24.50; 9, Quinn Stoltz (LC) 18:29.10 and 10, Noah Stoltz (LC) 18:30.40.

A total of 46 boys ran in the event with the Lions earning their first-place spot with 35 points. Hillsboro was second with 45 points. In third was McClain with 56 points, and fourth place was Lynchburg-Clay at 92 points. Whiteoak had individual runners in the event but didn't field enough runners for a team score.

Runners for the Fairfield Lions included: Mangus, Hildebrant, Cain, Wyatt Crothers (11, 18:33.40), Dustin Willey (15, 18:53.90), Brant Huff (20:17.20), Matthew Leach (21:08.31), Gage Montgomery (22:26.10), Layne Irvin (24:32.30) and Jacob Dalton (25:11.70).

Runners for the Hillsboro Indians included: Rothwell, Boone, Steward, Wyatt Gleadle (12, 18:40.71), Gabriel Tamborski (16, 19:43.10), Joe Beery (17, 19:43.50), Guy Bailey (18, 19:53.80), D.J. Davis (19, 19:58.80), Brendan Eltzroth (20:30.40), Christian Gunderman (21:50.10), Dakota Bullock (23:19.61) and Sawyer Davis (25:16.50).

Runners for the McClain Tigers included: Mootispaw, Savage, Chris Eltman (13, 18:41.20), Isaiah Isaacs (14, 18:51.20), Evan Onusko (20, 20:10.60), Adomas Fabin (20:50.90), Daniel Addington (21:14.90), Tristan Smith (23:05.90), Micah Mootispaw (23:45.30), Ryan Bennett (24:48.70), Daniel Mottie (29:05.30) and Joey Jones (37:27.90).
 
Runners for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs included: Quinn Stoltz, Noah Stoltz, Ryan Inman (20:59.30), Aaron Little (21:17.11), Cody Johnson (22:10.80), Colt Dunseith (22:26.80), Curtis Sneed (23:18.00) and Linus Stoltz (34:51.10).

Runner for the Whiteoak Wildcats included: Tyler Roberts (21:58.50), Andrew Stone (22:38.10), Travis Tracy (23:20.80) and Corey Adams (24:50.00).
