Mangus, Davis, Hodson and Duffie race in Div. III state 4x8 race

It was one final run for the Fairfield Lions 4x800-meter relay team as they raced their final race as one unit at the OHSAA Division III State Track and Field Championships.
Fairfield’s team of seniors Matthew Mangus and Andrew Davis, along with juniors Bennett Hodson and Brandtson Duffie ran their eight total laps as a group one final time, finishing 13th overall with a time of 8:15.95 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.

The first leg of the race was Davis, followed by Duffie running the second leg. Next was Mangus, and the final two laps were run by Hodson.
Winning the race was Worthington Christian with a time of 7:50.92, followed by East Canton in second place at 7:54.49. In third place was Columbus Academy at 7:59.45, and rounding out the Top 5 were Liberty Center (8:00.37) and Smithville (8:04.94).
The sixth through 10th places in the race were Gilmour Academy (8:06.66), Fort Loramie (8:10.51), Maplewood (8:12.39) and Ashland Crestview (8:13.05).
In 11th place was Grandview Heights (8:13.45), followed by Toledo Christian (8:14.61), Fairfield (8:15.95), Arcanum (8:20.06) and in 15th place was Houston (8:23.73). The 16th through 18th places in the race were Cincinnati Country Day (8:25.46), Bluffton (8:28.24) and St. Paul (8:32.65).
Fairfield won the Southern Hills Athletic Conference 4x800m relay championship with a time of 8:55.17, then a week later the Lions set the district meet record with a time of 8:20.6. At regionals last weekend, the Lions were third at 8:20.00.
Last year at state, the ’17 Lions ran a time of 8:14.49, as that is the school record for the 4x800m relay team where Mangus and Duffie were a part of that team. This was also the third consecutive year the Fairfield 4x800m relay team has advanced to the state meet, as Mangus and Duffie raced for the 2016 team as well.
Also for the Lions on Saturday, June 2, Duffie will race in the 800m race (10:55 a.m.), where he finished in sixth place one year ago, and Mangus will race in the 3200m race (11:30 a.m.), where he was seventh place last year at state.
