Mangus 14th, Beery 33rd at Atlantic Sun Conference Cross-Country Championship

Northern Kentucky University freshman and Fairfield High School graduate Michael Mangus finished 14th overall at the 2014 Atlantic Sun Conference Cross Country Championship this past weekend in Debary, Fla.
The finish by Mangus, who was a three-time state qualifier while at Fairfield, also earned second-team all-conference honors. Mangus also earned first-team all-conference on the freshman team.

Also in the race from Highland County was Joe Beery, a graduate from Hillsboro High School. Beery, a sophomore, finished in 33rd place overall. Beery attends Stetson University. Beery finished with a time of 27:05.

"I felt really solid," Beery said. "I finally relaxed for the first time this season - just took a race pace by pace and mile by mile. The weather was so nice. I am glad these northern schools came down and brought frost with them."
Another area runner, Daniel Gardner, a graduate of Paint Valley, was fourth overall. He attends Lipscomb and is currently a junior.
