Lions win at Adena

The Fairfield Lions continued their momentum from Friday night's victory with another win the following night by defeating the Adena Warriors, 71-64 at AHS in non-conference play.

After trailing 16-14 following the conclusion of the first quarter, the Lions continued to fight for the lead, trailing 36-33 at halftime.

The second half was a different story with the Lions outscoring the host Warriors, 24-13, and holding them off in the fourth by scoring 14 points, while AHS had 15 points in the quarter.

"This was a physical game," Snyder said. "(Jon) Thomas played well for Adena, and we made some adjustments in the second half. In the second half, we put Cody on him, and he did a good job.

"We forced them into fouls, and it changed the game."

It was the post play of Joey Wilson that stood out for the Lions on this night with the senior scoring a team-high 20 points. Wilson, who had four assists, scored eight two-point baskets and went 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Gage Montgomery followed with 18 points as he also had eight two-point buckets, along with going 2-of-3 from the free-throw line.

"Joey and Gage each played a good game," Snyder said.

Cody Bennett ended with 14 points, including a three-pointer and a 7-of-8 performance from the free-throw line. Bennett also had three steals.

Ryan Bates finished the non-conference game with 12 points and nine rebounds. Also for the Lions, Blake Hildebrant finished with four points, and Brant Huff totaled three points. Hildebrant and Huff each sank a 3-pointer, with Hildebrant collecting five assists and three steals.

"Blake was in foul trouble early and sat most of the first half," Snyder said. "The team stepped up, and it was nice to get two wins in two days."

Jon Thomas led AHS with 28 points.

The Lions will play again on Tuesday when they host Ripley.
