Lions win 3rd game of the week; defeat Fayetteville

The Fairfield Lions went on the road for their third game in four days and returned to Leesburg with the victory, defeating Southern Hills Athletic Conference counterpart Fayetteville, 64-53.
Fairfield’s win at Fayetteville moved them to the top spot early on in the Division II of the SHAC, with a league mark of 3-0 and an overall record of 5-1. The Lions this past week won on Tuesday against Manchester (84-74), then the following day defeated Georgetown (64-54). After one day off, the Lions won the road game at Fayetteville, including taking charge early with an 11-10 first-quarter lead.

From there in the second frame, Fairfield outscored the Rockets with a 17-7 frame for a halftime lead of 28-17. Fayetteville came out after the half and won the third frame at 20-15 for a 43-37 lead in favor of the Lions.
The Lions were a little fatigued in the final eight minutes but still stood strong, winning the fourth quarter at 21-16 and taking home the 11-point conference win.
“I thought the fatigue showed Friday,” FHS head coach Everett Snyder said. “The two games earlier in the week were close and competitive, but we were able to pull away late as we had there games in four days.
“The kids showed poise and played well through the fatigue.”
Jensen Daulton led the Lions with 21 points, including two 3-pointers, six two-point field goals and he was a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. Wyatt Evans followed with 13 points, making five free throws and four two-point buckets.
Cody Gragg totaled nine points, four steals and three assists for the Lions, while Jesse Current scored eight points in the victory.
Also for the Lions, Klay Walker finished with six points (two 3-pointers), three assists and two steals, while Tucker Ayres collected four points and six rebounds. The scoring column also included Mason Cain with three points to wrap up the Fairfield scoring.
Fayetteville was led in scoring by Max Lanham with 15 points and Luke Wiederhold with 14 points.
Next for the Lions is a SHAC game on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at North Adams, who have one loss in the league. Following that game, the Lions will have a 15-day break before having a non-conference game on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Paint Valley.
