Lions use 9-run inning for run-rule victory

The Fairfield Lions gained their seventh win of the season in convincing fashion Thursday evening as they scored nine runs in the fourth inning, leading to a 12-0, five-inning run-rule Southern Hills Athletic Conference win over the Manchester Greyhounds.
The Lions not only scored nine runs in the fourth, but beforehand they had a two-run first and one-run third as they totaled 14 hits on the day, improving to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in the SHAC.
FHS also played errorless baseball against the visiting Greyhounds, while MHS had six errors.
The Lions' pitching was on point as starter Zach Cox allowed just one hit and one walk in five innings. Cox, a junior, struck out 10 of the 17 batters he faced.

Leading the Lions at the plate was Wyatt Crothers at 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs.
Quentin Schaffer, Cody Bennett, Dylan Rohde and Blake Hildebrant each had two hits. Gaining one hit each were Isaiah Liggins, Cox (a double) and Joey Wilson.
Rohde had two RBIs and Cox, Schaffer, Bennett, Wilson and Hildebrant each had one RBI.
Caleb Huff, Cox and Wilson were each hit by a pitch, while Bennett totaled three stolen bases to lead the Lions on the bases. Schaffer and Hildebrant each had one steal.
The Lions have another SHAC game today as they host Fayetteville at 5 p.m.
