Lions take down Peebles, defeated by Eastern in recent games

Tuesday was a great day for the Fairfield Lions with the baseball team defending their home field with dominance, as they defeated the Peebles Indians in five innings by a 10-0 score.
The Southern Hills Athletic Conference contest saw the Lions get started strong offensively early and not look back with Fairfield having a 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning, followed by five more runs in the second. Having an 8-0 advantage, Fairfield added two more runs with one run crossing home plate in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Andrew Dingey was the winning pitcher for the Lions, pitching five innings, where he allowed no runs on one hit and one walk. Dungey totaled 10 strikeouts in the win.
Jacob Morgan was 2-for-3 with three runs, while Austin Setty (one run), Dingey (one run, two RBI) and Griffin Irvin (two RBI) each had one hit.
Sam Buddelmeyer scored two runs, and Layne Morgan also scored two runs for the Lions, and Ethan Grooms scored one run and had two RBI in the win.
The win moves the Lions to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the SHAC.
On Friday (April 5) the Fairfield Lions lost to the Eastern Warriors, 3-1 in SHAC action in a road game. Fairfield’s lone run was scored in the top of the fifth inning by Wyatt Willey. Willey was 1-for-3 in the game.
Austin Setty finished 2-for-4 at the plate in the SHAC loss, and Layne Morgan was 1-for-2.
Sam Buddelmeyer was charged with the loss as he pitched five innings, along three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk. Buddelmeyer totaled seven strikeouts.
“Sam, again, pitched good enough for us to get the win,” FHS head coach Jeremy McGraw said. “We had a couple of mistakes on defense and they made us pay. Give Eastern credit, Andres Vargas did a great job on the mound.
“Offensively was a struggle. We were not patient enough at the plate. When you have runners on second and third with no outs, you have to score a run and we did not. You have to get the job done at this level.”
