Lions stay top team in Division III

Coming off wins in the past seven days at the Aaron Reed Memorial Invitational and the Highland County Invitational, the Fairfield Lions boys cross-country team is still the top-ranked team in Division III as voted on by the coaches of the OAT&CCC.

The Lions have been in the state lead all season, this week having 234 points in the coaches votes, scoring six first-place votes. In second place is the hard-charging East Canton boys team with 233 points, also with six first-place votes.

The rest of the Top 5 are: Fort Loramie (213), Mt. Gilead (186) and Smithville (180). The rest of the Top 10 (sixth through 10th place) are: Liberty Center (178), Maplewood (170), Columbus Academy (163), McDonald (136) and Minster (132).

In 11th place is Fredericktown (117), followed by Houston (110), New London (98), Mapleton (71) and rounding out the Top 15 is Col. Crawford (55).

The rest of the Top 20 (16-20) include: Gilmour Academy (51), Sherwood Fairview (49), Caldwell (46), Lincolnview (39) and Garaway (36).

Fairfield will race at Lancaster at the Bob Reall Lancaster Invitational at Lancaster High School this Saturday as they enter the race undefeated in events this season. Last year, the Lions won the Division II & III event with a score of 28, winning the race by five points.
