Lions stay atop the SHAC Div. II standings; defeat Greyhounds

The Fairfield Lions kept the score close after two innings but broke away from the visiting Manchester Greyhounds in the third inning, on their way to a 12-2 win Tuesday at FHS.
The score was tied 1-1 after the first inning, but a nine-run third by the host Lions put the game out of reach as the Lions eventually won by the run-rule after five innings.
The final two FHS runs came in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.
[[In-content Ad]]A win by the Lions on Wednesday when they host the Eastern Brown Warriors would give FHS no less than a share of the SHAC Division II title as they currently hold a one-game lead in the conference over Fayetteville.
The Lions are 9-2 in the SHAC.
Fayetteville holds a 7-3 record in the conference with three SHAC games remaining. A Fairfield win and one more loss by Fayetteville would give the Lions the outright Division II conference title.
For the game, the Lions (9-2, 12-5) totaled nine hits, with Joey Wilson and Wyatt Crothers each having two hits. Wilson added two runs and an RBI. One of the two hits by Wilson was a double.
Crothers also scored two runs and had one RBI.
Mitchell Rose, Dylan Rohde, Blake Hildebrant, Isaiah Liggins and Jacob Wheeler each had a hit, with Rose's hit being a double. Rose also tallied a team-high three RBIs.
Liggins and Wheeler each followed with two RBIs.
Manchester's final run was scored in the fifth inning.
Rohde was the winning pitcher, going the distance. In the five innings he pitched, Rohde allowed two earned runs on five hits and no walks. He finished with three strikeouts.
