Lions split with Hurricane in weekend DH
On Saturday, the Fairfield Lions split a doubleheader with the Wilmington Hurricane, winning their game 6-5, but dropping a game to WHS, 17-6.
In the 6-5 win by the Lions, the non-conference game began with the Hurricane leading 2-0 after the first inning, but FHS responded with a four-run second for a 4-2 advantage.
In the fifth, the Lions added two runs to their side, while WHS had one run for a 6-3 score.
The sixth saw the Hurricane add two more runs, but the Lions were able to fend off Wilmington for the win.
Gage Montgomery led the Lions at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two doubles.
Cody Bennett was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI in the FHS win.
Mitchell Rose scored a run, while Blake Hildebrant had a hit, a run, two RBIs and a double.
Rose and Hildebrant also each had a walk.

Joey Wilson scored a run, and Wyatt Crothers had one RBI. Also scoring a run was Zach Cox. Isaiah Liggins and Cox each had a walk.
Liggins was the winning pitcher, going six complete innings. Facing 25 batters, Liggins allowed five earned runs on six hits and two walks in the win. He struck out three.
Wilson earned the save with one inning pitched. In the four batters he faced, Wilson allowed one walk and had two strikeouts.
In their game-two loss, the Lions scored three runs in the first but still trailed 5-3 after the first inning. In the third, the Lions added one run.
In the fourth, WHS added four runs for a 9-4 lead. FHS scored two runs in the fifth, but eight runs in the seventh gave WHS the 11-run win.
The Lions had seven hits in the game with Hildebrant and Liggins each having two hits. Hildebrant had two runs, while Liggins scored one.
Schaffer, Wilson and Rohde each had one hit.
Wilson and Liggins each had two RBIs.
