Lions soccer falls to Peebles to open SHAC slate

The Fairfield Lions had a tough start Friday night, trailing at halftime by three goals. They managed to have a more productive second half, but it was too late for the Lions to gain a win, falling to the Peebles Indians, 4-2 in their boys soccer conference opener.

The Southern Hills Athletic Conference road loss for the Lions (0-2-1) saw them allow three goals in the first half for a halftime deficit of 3-0.

"It was a rough game, that we didn't seem ready for in the first half," FHS head coach Jacob Alexander said. "We regrouped in the second half, but it was too little, too late. With it being our third game this week, we had some tired legs and bodies. We got in to a groove in the second half that hopefully we can carry over for next Tuesday against Washington C.H."

In the second half for the Lions, senior Jesse Current scored a goal and senior Braden Case had an assist. The other goal for FHS was an own goal by PHS, as the Lions threw the ball in, and the keeper, along with an FHS player, went up for the ball at the same time. The ball hit off the keeper's hand and went in the net for the Lions for their second goal.

The next match for the Lions is a non-league showdown with the Washington Blue Lions at 5 p.m. at Gardner Park in Washington C.H. on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
