Lions see season come to a close
The Fairfield Lions grew up a lot this season on the baseball diamond, and without a single senior on the roster, they managed to improve as the season went along.
That season came to a close on Saturday afternoon, as the Lions lost to the Manchester Greyhounds in a sectional semifinal game by a 6-2 score at FHS.
For the visiting Greyhounds, they led by a 5-0 score after a three-run third and added one final run in the top of the sixth for their scoring.
The Lions scored their runs in the seventh inning, both with two outs on the scoreboard.
FHS was led by Klay Walker with two hits, and Mason Cain had one.

"We played hard all year, and we told them going into the seventh to just keep fighting to the end," FHS head coach Tony Haley said. "A lot of the young guys don't understand that.
"A couple games ago, we had the same situation and we had to fight to come back to win. (Saturday) we came up a little short. We ask to guys to keep fighting to the end, and that's what they did."
The loss ends the Lions’ season at 8-11 overall, 7-5 in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference.
"Coming in, we heard all these seniors left and we'd be lucky to win two games, but these guys stepped up, and worked hard all year,” Haley said. “They kept fighting and believed in themselves.
"Being a freshman or sophomore … you still have to keep playing the game, so I'm pretty proud of how they played.”
