Lions run-rule SHAC rival Peebles

The Fairfield Lions went on the road and returned back to Highland County with their fourth win in five games this season, this time defeating the Peebles Indians, 15-2 Monday evening at Peebles High School.

FHS (4-1) not only collected the aforementioned 15 runs, they also had 19 hits in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory. Leading the Lions at the plate was Austin Setty, who finished 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Next with three hits each were Klay Walker at 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs and Andrew Dingey, who was also 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.

With two hits apiece were Cody Gragg (2-for-3, three runs, one RBI, one walk), Tucker Ayres (2-for-4, three RBIs) and Mason Cain (2-for-4, one run, one RBI).

As for the FHS scoring, FHS scored two runs in the first, followed by a nine-run second, one-run third and three runs in the fourth inning. PHS scored one run each in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Lions also had three players with one hit in Dylan Zimmerman (one RBI), Sam Buddelmeyer (two runs) and Eli Potts (one run, one RBI). Mathew Spears finished with one RBI for the Lions.

Fairfield totaled five extra-base hits in the win as Walker and Potts each had one double, Cain had two doubles and Buddelmeyer hit a triple. Gragg finished with two stolen bases, as did Setty and Ayres had one steal.

The winning pitcher was Gragg. Gragg pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks. The starting pitcher finished with six strikeouts with a total of 72 pitches in the outing, 42 for strikes. Gragg faced 20 batters, showing first-pitch strikes 12 times.

Setty pitched one-third of an inning in relief. In eight pitches (seven for strikes) he allowed no runs or walks, and collected one strikeout.

Of the 15 runs scored by the Lions, nine were scored as earned runs, facing two different pitchers at PHS.
