Lions run-rule Dragons, 17-1

It took just six innings for the Fairfield Lions to gain their seventh Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory of the season on Wednesday, defeating the West Union Dragons, 17-1.

The win moves the Lions to 10-5 overall and 7-2 in the SHAC.

For the Lions, they scored four runs in the second, followed with a five-run fourth and ended things with an eight-run sixth.

FHS tallied 12 hits, while they held the host Dragons to just two. West Union scored their lone run in the fourth inning.

Three Lions players recorded three hits each, with Blake Hildebrant going 2-for-2 with one run, three walks and two RBIs.

Ryan Bates had two hits to go with two RBIs and two runs. One of his two hits was a double.

Wyatt Crothers, with his two hits, added three runs and two RBIs. One of his hits was also a double.

Having one hit each were Quintin Schaffer, Mitchell Rose, Joey Wilson, Gage Montgomery, Isaiah Liggins and Zach Cox. Rose, Liggins, Cox and Wilson each had two RBIs.

The Lions totaled five doubles and 15 RBIs.

Crothers led FHS with two steals, as the Lions had five total in the game.

Cox was the winning pitcher, allowing one run (unearned) on two hits and no walks. Cox totaled 12 strikeouts.
