Lions move to district finals

In two postseason games on Friday and Saturday, the Fairfield Lions have breezed through the competition, defeating Peebles and South Webster to earn a spot in the Division IV SE District Finals.
The Lions (17-5) defeated the South Webster in the district semifinals, 7-0 and in the sectional finals won by a 16-0 score against Peebles.
Saturday's win at VA Memorial Stadium saw the Lions score three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth, as they totaled not only the seven runs, but 10 hits and one error.
SWHS totaled four hits and had two errors.
[[In-content Ad]]FHS was led at the plate by Wyatt Crothers at 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs. He also had one double.
Isaiah Liggins was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Liggins had a double and a triple.
Ryan Bates, Gage Montgomery, Quintin Schaffer, Cody Bennett and Joey Wilson each had one hit.
Bates, Liggins, Zach Cox and Schaffer each had one RBI.
Cox was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs on three hits. He finished with five strikeouts. Wilson allowed no runs on one hit and one walk. He struck out one in two innings.
In Friday's 16-run win on Friday at VA Memorial, the Lions scored two runs combined in the first two innings and followed that with a 14-run fourth inning for the 16-run win.
The Lions totaled 12 hits and committed no errors.
PHS totaled one hit and two errors.
Cox was the winning pitcher. He allowed no runs on one hit and no walks in three innings. He struck out three.
Bates led the Lions at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Montgomery and Blake Hildebrant each had two hits.
Hildebrant led FHS with five RBIS, while Liggins had four RBIs and Crothers had three.
Crothers had a triple, while Montgomery, Liggins and Hildebrant each had a double.
FHS will play again on Monday for the district title, facing Paint Valley at 5 p.m. at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe.
