Going on the road Friday night, the Fairfield Lions lost their season opener in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action by a 56-50 score at RHS.
The Lions (0-1) had a strong first quarter as they collected 18 points, doubling up the host Blue Jays by a 18-9 score to end the quarter.
FHS had three 3-pointers in the first from Bryson Simmons, while Sam Buddelmeyer scored five points in the quarter and Wyatt Willey tallied four points.
Buddelmeyer and Simmons each led the Lions with 13 points for the game.
Ripley battled back in the second, outscoring the Lions 17-11, though the Lions led at halftime at 29-26.
For the Lions in the second, Austin Setty sank a 3-pointer, while Ethan Saunders scored four points in the frame. Also in the second, Simmons and Buddelmeyer each had a two-point basket.
In the third quarter, Ripley scored 19 points and the Lions scored 15 points, with baskets in the quarter from Setty, Buddelmeyer, Willey, Simmons, Conner Priest and James Bentley. In the quarter, Willey sank a 3-pointer.
The Lions were held to six points in the fourth with four points by Buddelmeyer and two points by Saunders. In the same quarter, the Blue Jays scored 11 points.
Ripley was led in scoring by Jaki Royal with 14 points and Nigel Royal with 11 points.
Other scoring totals for the Lions were Willey with seven points, Saunders with six points and Setty with five points. Bentley totaled four points, and Priest scored two points.
For the game, the Lions were 1-of-4 from the free-throw line, along with making 17 two-point baskets and five 3-pointers. Ripley tallied 14 two-point baskets, seven 3-pointers and were 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.
