Lions gain win over Blanchester in season-opener

Eleven hits and late-inning runs were just enough for the Fairfield Lions to open they 2016 season on the winning side, as their game was moved to Blanchester on Saturday afternoon, but the result was one they wanted to occur.

In their seven-inning game, the Lions scored all of their runs in the final three innings, leading to a 6-5 victory over the Blanchester Wildcats in non-conference play.

The Lions (1-0) trailed 3-0 after four innings with the Wildcats scoring two runs in the third and one in the fourth inning. FHS roared back with a four-run fifth inning and one more run in their half of the sixth.

Blanchester also scored a run in the sixth inning, but FHS was able to score the go-ahead and game-winning run in their half of the seventh to seal the win.

FHS was led at the plate by Randy Lamme with four hits and one walk. Cody Gragg had two walks. Mitchell Rose finished with two RBIs, and Austin Setty had one RBI.

The Lions are scheduled to host the Peebles Indians on Tuesday in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference showdown at 5 p.m. at FHS.
