Lions gain road victory at West Union

The Fairfield Lions won their second consecutive Southern Hills Athletic Conference game of the week by defeating the West Union Dragons, 69-59 Friday night at WUHS.
The SHAC win puts the Lions at 2-0 in the conference and 4-3 overall on the season.
"I thought we played a good game, but this was a game of scoring runs," FHS head coach Everett Snyder said. "We finished strong in the fourth quarter, and I was pleased with our turnover total at 13 for the game. We had just four turnovers in the first half.
"We are where we want to be in the league."
Leading the way for FHS were seniors Joey Wilson and Gage Montgomery with each player collecting a double-double against the much taller West Union club.
Wilson scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He also added four steals and four assists, while also shooting a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Montgomery added 13 points and 13 rebounds for his double-double.

In all, four FHS players collected double-digit scoring with Blake Hildebrant scoring 12 points (two 3-pointers) and Ryan Bates with 11 points (eight rebounds).
"My three bigs all did a good job of controlling the boards, and I told them we had to control them because West Union had the height advantage. I was pleased with the rebounding."
As for the flow of the game, the Lions led 17-16 after the first quarter and led 36-24 at halftime after outscoring the Dragons, 19-8 in the second frame.
WU won the third at 20-11, but the Lions rallied back to take the fourth at 22-15.
Matthew Leach added seven points for the Lions, while Brant Huff totaled four points. Dustin Willey and Cody Bennett each added two points.
FHS will play again on Tuesday as they travel to face Fayetteville in a SHAC game.
