LEESBURG — The Fairfield boys soccer team struggled in their non-conference matchup to begin the week on Monday night, falling to the visiting Blanchester Wildcats, 7-1 at Fairfield High School.

The Lions allowed all seven goals in the first half as Blanchester held the aforementioned 7-1 lead after the first half.

FHS had problems putting offensive pressure on the Wildcats, but they did score their lone goal in the first half with Trey Current being the Lion who put the ball into the back of the net, past the keeper of BHS.

One positive for the Lions was they shut out the Wildcats in the final 40 minutes of the match.

"Blanchester did a nice job of passing the ball and playing with patience, and in the first half, we did the complete opposite," FHS head coach Brian Ortlieb said. "We tried to force too many things offensively and defensively, and obviously that didn't work very well.

"The second half, we played better. We were more patient and didn't allow open shots like we did in the first half. Overall, I'm not pleased with the way we played, but we did show some improvement in the second half."

Fairfield's loss sends the Lions to an overall record of 1-5-1. They will face the Washington Blue Lions next in another non-conference match this week.
