Lions earn big SHAC win at Fayetteville

Fairfield earned their third win Friday night as they had two players score over 20 points en route to launching to a 67-48 win over the host Fayetteville Rockets.
The Lions were led by Wyatt Willey with 23 points, three rebounds, four assists and one steal. Willey totaled seven two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Teammate Sam Buddelmeyer totaled 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists and one steal. Buddelmeyer’s scoring came from 10 two-point baskets and going 2-of-2 in his free-throw attempts.

Also in double-figure scoring was Bryson Simmons with 13 points, as he totaled five two-point baskets and one 3-pointer. Simmons also had one rebound and one assist.
The game for the Lions began with a strong first frame as they outscored the Rockets, 23-14 with Fairfield having 10 points in the opening frame from Willey, who also had two treys in the quarter.
Fairfield’s first quarter also had six points from Buddelmeyer, three points by James Bentley and two points each off baskets by Austin Setty and Simmons. Bentley led the Lions with 15 rebounds in the game.
The Lions scored 13 points in the second, and the Rockets scored 11 points for an FHS halftime lead of 36-25. FHS had points by Buddelmeyer, Willey and Ethan Saunders in the second.
Fayetteville outscored the Lions with a 16-15 quarter as the Lions had seven points from Simmons and four points each off baskets by Buddelmeyer and Willey.
In the fourth frame, it was FHS winning the quarter by a 16-7 scoring differential. Buddelmeyer had six points in the fourth, while Willey and Simmons each scored four points and two points were scored by Tucker Watson.
Leading the Rockets in scoring was Christopher Murphy with 25 points, as he had 12 two-point baskets and one free-throw conversion.
Next for the Lions is a non-conference game at East Clinton on Dec. 28.
