Lions down Adena; fall to Eastern Brown

     FRANKFORT - Playing their third game in three days, the Fairfield Lions gained their first win in that three-day span as they defeated the Adena Warriors 59-40 Saturday night at Adena High School.
     The Lions started off the game by outscoring the Warriors 15-6, followed with each team scoring 10 points in the second quarter for a 25-16 lead after 16 minutes of action.
     In the third, FHS added 16 points to their lead, with the defense allowing Adena to score 12 points to give the Lions a lead at 41-28. The Lions ruled the final quarter, winning the final eight minutes with a 18-12 effort.
     "We had a tough week playing three games in three days," FHS head coach Matt Carson said. "The kids continue to battle, and it was nice to get a win with everybody playing and contributing."
     The Lions were led by Chris Cox who finished with 22 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks for a double-double. Cox made two free throws and five two-point shots and was 6 of 10 from the free-throw line.
     Alex Henson finished with 11 points for the Lions. The senior sank five two-point buckets and went 1 of 2 from the free-throw line, while gaining four rebounds, four assists and one steal.
     Cameron Rolark and Cody Ferrell each scored eight points, followed by Brandon Carmean with four. Ian Adams, Cody Tolle and Josh Honeycutt each scored two points. Adams also gained six rebounds, four steals and three assists in the non-league win.
     Nick Sowders had two boards, one steal and one assist for FHS, followed with Sam Stauffer with two rebounds and one assist. Ryan Evans had one rebound for the Lions.
     John Cottrill led Adena with 13 points.
     The Lions shot 24 of 47 from the field for 51 percent.

     On Friday, Feb. 12 the Fairfield Lions dropped their Southern Hills League contest to the Eastern Brown Warriors 91-57.
     Fairfield fell behind early trailing 18-9 after the first quarter. Each team netted 16 points in the second quarter, but the Warriors took control in the third by outscoring the Lions 29-12.  In the final eight minutes, Eastern didn't let up, as they won the quarter 28-20.
     Chris Cox led FHS with 22 points, followed by Alex Henson with 13 points. Michael Carson scored seven in the loss to EB. Nick Sowders and Cody Tolle each scored six points for FHS. Cameron Rolark scored three points.
     The Lions gained 30 rebounds with Cox grabbing a team-high nine. Josh Honeycutt, Henson and Sowders each had four rebounds. Henson led FHS with six assists. Sam Stauffer had one assist. Henson also took a charge against the Warriors.
     Tyler Knabb led EB with 16 points, followed by Wendell with 14. Little and Payne each scored 11 points for EB in the SHL victory.
