Lions defeat 32 teams at Cedarville Friendship Invitational

The Fairfield Lions boys cross-country team won the Cedarville Friendship Invitational on Saturday, winning against strong competition as a total of 33 schools competed in the event.
FHS won with a score of 74, followed by second-place Minster, who scored 114. Rounding out the Top 5 were Wyoming (147), Cedarville (165) and Rock Hill (193).

Hillsboro also raced in the event with a 21st-place finish.
Leading the way for the Lions was Austin Setty with a time of 17:37.2 for ninth place. Ethan Davis followed in 15th place at 17:46.8. The Lions had three more runners in the Top 20 with Brandtson Duffie in 18th place (17:55.6), Cohen Frost (17:56.6) in 19th and Bennett Hodson in 20th place (17:57.4).
Also for the Lions, Blake Haines was 51st (18:51.6) and Gavin Campbell finished in 90th place (19:26.8), followed by Brant Haines (22:09.9), Riley Friend (22:58.8), Orrie Friend (25:31.3), Gavin Cox (25:43.5), Josh Brown (36:48.2) and Tucker Green (43:52.6).
“We put together a really strong race against excellent competition,” Fairfield boys head coach Raymond Friend said. “Having our top five runners under 18 minutes is right where we want to be in the middle of our season.
“The strength of our team is our pack running. There were only 20 seconds between our first and fifth runner. Next week, we will see even better competition as we run in a unique night competition called the Saturday Night Lights at Centerville High School.”
For Hillsboro, times included: Nathan Spencer (19:13.6), Bailey Lucarello (19:41.4), Alex Rensing (20:04.6), Ben Sowders (21:46.6), Ethan Back (22:15.0), Owen Ryan (26:47.4) and Liam Smart (31:53.7),
