Lions cross-country wins Aaron Reed Memorial Invitational

The Fairfield Lions boys varsity cross-county team was victorious for the fourth time this season, this time winning the Aaron Reed Memorial Invitational held at Southeastern High School.
FHS scored a low of 34, allowing them to defeat the following schools in this order: Unioto, Fairland, Zane Trace, Gallia Academy, Waverly, Westfall, Piketon, Huntington, Alexander, Miami Trace, Hillsboro, Chillicothe, Washington, Nelsonville-York, Beaver Eastern, Paint Valley, Wellston, Amanda Clearcreek, Adena, Portsmouth Clay and McClain.
Western Latham, Southeastern and Jackson did not field full teams.
[[In-content Ad]]Leading Fairfield was sophomore Noah Richmond, finishing runner-up in the annual meet with a time of 17:32.
Richmond was followed by sophomore Matthew Mangus in fourth, junior Trent Swisher in eighth and freshman Austin Setty with a ninth-place finish to give the Lions four runners in the Top 10.
Sophomore Andrew Davis was 11th, and the sixth runner for the Lions in the Top 20 was junior Dillon Burley in 20th.
"Overall, this is a good win for our program," volunteer coach Bill Mangus said. "Noah Richmond really delivered for us today and led us with an individual runner-up finish.
"Andrew Davis continues to be very consistent for us and ran well again as our fifth man. We needed the boys to step up due to missing Wyatt Evans."
Other finishers for the Lions included: sophomore Nick Price (34th), freshman Brandtson Duffie (35th), freshman Sam Buddelmeyer (60th), freshman Bennett Hodson (69th), junior Mason Cain (83rd), junior Lane Frost (106th), junior Jason Moeller (164th), freshman Phoenix Taylor (181st) and freshman Riley Friend (192nd). The boys race had 198 finishers.
The high school Lady Lions also competed at the invitational, placing 11th of 17 schools.
Unioto won the girls meet with a score of 36. The first Fairfield finisher was Alexis Swisher in 31st with a time of 24:02.
She was followed by freshman Megan Gragg (47th), freshman Sammi Shepherd (57th), freshman Meadow Cunningham (98th), sophomore Andrea Spears (118th) and freshman Brianna Barnes (124th). The girls race had 144 finishers.
The boys middle school team finished first of 16 schools with 83 points. The girls middle school team finished seventh of 16 schools.
The teams will be back in action at their only home meet on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Fairfield High School.
