Lions crash Rockets in SHL play

Lead Summary

FAYETTEVILLE – The Fairfield Lions continued their winning ways Tuesday evening at the expense of the Fayetteville Rockets, with the Lions taking the Southern Hills League game 56-41 at Fayetteville High School.

The win improves the Lions to 2-2 overall, winning their second straight game. FHS is 2-0 in the SHL.

“We executed our game plan well,” Fairfield head coach Matt Carson said. “We made them settle for jump shots. This was a real team victory and everybody contributed. We played better on the defensive end and the kids worked hard.”

Fairfield started off the game by outscoring the Rockets 11-4 and 15-13 in the second quarter for a 26-17 lead at the half.

In the third the Lions, again, scored 15 points while their zone defense held the Rockets to six points. In the final quarter the Lions were outscored by Fayetteville 18-15.

The loss drops the Rockets to 1-3 overall (0-2, SHL).

FHS junior Chris Cox led all scorers with a game-high 20 points. Cox made eight shots from the field and was 4 of 6 from the free-throw line.

Cameron Rolark netted 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Ian Adams scored eight points for the Lions, including one 3-point basket, along with a 3 of 4 performance from the free-throw line.

Cody Tolle scored five points for FHS, and teammate Casey Jordan tallied three points with three converted free throws. Sam Stauffer and Brandon Carmean each had two points. Alex Henson finished with one point.

Zach Durham led the Rockets with nine points.

On Saturday the Lions will host Ripley with the freshman game starting at 5 p.m.

Before Saturday’s game FHS will be holding a dinner to benefit the Kevin Fouch family. Donations of $5 will be accepted for the dinner.
