The Fairfield cross-country teams traveled to Pickerington North High School for an invitational on Saturday with the boys varsity team finishing in fourth place.
The middle school boys team also was fourth, while the girls middle school team was eighth place in their respective events.
[[In-content Ad]]With their fourth place finish (out of 19 teams), the FHS ( a Division III school) boys varsity team finished behind Div. I Watkins Memorial, and Div. II Riverview and Fairland High Schools.
FHS defeated Port Clinton, Carrollton, Morgan, Columbus Westland, West Union, Logan Elm, Worthington Christian, Big Walnut, London, Ironton, Oak Stone Academy, Grove City Christian, Circleville, Madison Christian and Huntington High Schools.
Capturing the first place finish for the second straight year was FHS senior Michael Mangus with a time of 17:04. Senior Blake Hildebrant finished in third place in 17:36, as both have reached the Div. III State Championships this past two seasons, with Mangus placing in '12.
Wyatt Evans finished 21st at 18:28, with Trent Swisher finishing 45th (19:35), Wyatt Crothers 59th (20:16), Mason Cain 83rd (21:30), Dustin Willey 84th (21:31) and Matthew Leach 88th (21:39).
In the Middle School Boys competition, Fairfield finished in fourth place behind three Div. I middle schools (Pickerington Lakeview, Dublin Davis and Dublin Sells).
Leading the way for FMS was Noah Richmond in ninth place with a time of 12:05. Austin Setty placed 11th at 12:10.
Also for the FMS boys, Brandtson Duffie placed 26th (12:34), Zach Bolender placed 43rd (13:23), Tucker Ayres placed 74th (14:03) and Nick Price placed 109th (14:48).
The FMS girls, Grace Shope led the way for the Lady Lions with a sixth place finish at 13:55.
Also for the FMS girls, Teigan Thackston placed 51st (16:03), Dakota Haynes placed 58th (16:08), Andrea Spears placed 88th (17:33), Meadow Cunningham placed 181st (25:27) and Angel Moon placed 184th (25:54).
The teams will be back in action on Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Ohio Classic held at Liberty Park (in Hillsboro), starting with the middle school girls race at 9:30 a.m.
