Lions 3rd at Watkins Memorial

The Fairfield boys' varsity cross-country team competed in the McGowan Cross-Country Invitational held at Watkins Memorial High School in Pataskala, finishing in third place.   

The boys team scored 97 points, as second-place Mt. Gilead scored 91 points. Lancaster Fairfield Christian won the event with a low score of 86.  

FHS defeated teams from Newark Catholic, Centerburg, Grandview Heights, Millersport, Fisher Catholic, Gallia Northmor, Worthington Christian, Berne Union, Gilead Christian, Barnesville, Marion Elgin, Columbus Academy, Horizon Science Academy, Grove City Christian, Waterford, Bellaire St. John Central, Village Academy, Tree of Life and Cardington-Lincoln.

The Lions will face many of these opponents later this season at the Region 11 regional meet on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Pickerington North High School.

Senior Michael Mangus placed second with a time of 16:45. Also in the Top 10 was Blake Hildebrant in ninth at 17:23.

Wyatt Evans finished in 18th with a time of 17:57, and Trent Swisher was 31st at 18:49.

Wyatt Crothers finished in 47th (19:41), followed by Dustin Willey, 63rd (19:51);  Matthew Leach, 71st (20:19); Mason Cain, 78th (20:33); Dillon Burley, 134th (23:05); Clayton Jacobs, 145th (23:34); Skylar Moon, 160th (25:04); and Jason Moeller, 171st (26:27).

The team will be in action at the Aaron Reed Invitational held at Chillicothe Southeastern High School on Saturday, Sept. 14.
