LEESBURG — As the rest of Ohio was counting and casting votes, the McClain Lady Tigers and Fairfield Lady Lions were tallying points and shooting hoops as they took part in a scrimmage at Grandle Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

The annual scrimmage between the two Highland County teams, with McClain representing the South Central Ohio League and Fairfield representing the Southern Hills League, consisted of 10 separate quarters with the varsity team playing six and the JV teams playing in four as each team prepares for the upcoming season.

In the varsity quarters, the Lady Tigers won by scores of 26-11, 15-4, 10-4, 12-2, 15-6 and 14-7 as they were led by a senior class of six players.

"We have a good senior class," McClain coach Dennis Overstake said. "They have played together for a long time. Our scrimmages this season will be a good test for our girls since we don't start the regular season until Dec. 2."

The McClain JV teams won all four of their quarters played against Fairfield.

"This will be a learning year for our girls," Fairfield coach Matt Hodson said. "We don't have any seniors or juniors, so the girls will be gaining experience all season long.

"Our offseason is very important this year, with only two players who have varsity experience on the team."

Each team will play in more scrimmages this offseason with one being their respective league previews on Friday, Nov. 18. The Lady Lions will play their preview at Peebles High School, and the Lady Tigers will travel to play at Miami Trace, as they will take on Madison-Plains.

The SCOL Girls Basketball Preview Schedule (each game is two quarters) will start at 6 p.m. with Hillsboro taking on London, followed by McClain vs. Madison-Plains, Washington vs. Clinton-Massie and Miami Trace vs. East Clinton.

McClain will open their 2011-12 regular season on Friday, Dec. 2 at the Zane Trace Tip-Off at ZTHS against Adena at 5 p.m.

Fairfield opens their regular season on Monday, Nov. 28 when they host East Clinton.[[In-content Ad]]
