Lady Mustangs win 5th straight; defeat Lady Lions

DODSONVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs moved their win streak to five straight games on Thursday as they defeated Highland County counterpart Fairfield, 60-40 at LCHS.
The win by the Lady Mustangs was their ninth of the season to move to 9-2 overall, while Fairfield falls to 1-10 on the year.
LC led 16-6 after the first quarter, and following a second frame where LC outscored FHS, 18-16, the Lady Mustangs moved to a lead of 34-22 at halftime.
After the third quarter, where LC outscored their opponent 13-7, the Lady Mustangs ended the game with a fourth-frame advantage of 13-11.
Leading LC in scoring was Laney Lewis with 20, followed by Shelby Stewart with 14 and Ali Little with nine.[[In-content Ad]]
Lewis collected nine rebounds, three steals and four blocked shots, along with one assist. Stewart finished with one rebound. Offensively, she sank four three pointers. Little totaled 13 rebounds, two steals and three blocks.
Morgan Fittro finished with seven points, one rebound and two steals.
Also for LC, Emma Setty scored four points, while Madison Wills finished with three points, Madysyn Creighton totaled two points and Sarah Rosselott scored one point. Ginny Gadzinski had a steal.
Overall, LC was 7-of-13 from the free-throw line.
For FHS, Heather Cox scored 20 points, and Heather Sanderson had nine.
LC will play again on Thursday, Jan. 10 when they host Manchester. FHS plays again on Monday, Jan. 7 when they host Hillsboro.
