Lady Mustangs top Lady Lions

DODSONVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs broke their recent two-game slide Saturday afternoon with a 46-26 Southern Hills League win over Highland County rival Fairfield.

LC doubled the scoring of FHS in the first half, leading 10-5 after the first frame, followed with a 16-point output in the second quarter. After the first half, LC led 26-8.

In the third quarter, LC added another 10 points for a third quarter lead of 36-17. In the final frame, LC outscored FHS, 10-9. In the final two quarters, LC led 20-18.

LC had eight players score points.

Lillian Blankenship led with nine points for LC. She added five assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Brooke Hertlein added seven points, with 12 rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots.

Four Lady Mustangs scored six points each. Scoring six points each were Hannah Blankenship, Laney Lewis, Ashley Tenas and Karen Hilt. Hannah Blankenship added eight rebounds and four steals. Lewis tallied eight rebounds, two blocked shots, one assist and one steal. Hilt had two rebounds and one assist. Tenas tallied two rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Also for LC, Meredith Fittro scored four points, with four rebounds, two steals and one assist. Lisa Rhonemus scored two points and three rebounds. Emma Setty had one rebound.

LC committed 22 turnovers.

The Lady Mustangs will play at West Union on Monday, and FHS will face Manchester at MHS on Monday.[[In-content Ad]]
