Lady Mustangs blank Fairfield

DODSONVILLE — Lynchburg-Clay is now two Southern Hills League wins away from gaining their second consecutive golden soccer ball trophy as they defeated Highland County counterpart Fairfield, 7-0 Wednesday at LCHS.
The Lady Mustangs controlled all aspects of the match against a Fairfield team that had just nine players in the second half as injuries have taken their toll on the hard-playing team that never quits.
"I want to say I admire those girls for Fairfield," LC coach Dennis West said. "They played hard throughout without backups or a full team. I told Coach (Sam) Spargur, his girls played hard."
It took LC nearly 20 minutes to get on the board in the first half, but senior Taylor Scott scored first with 21:52 on the clock.
That goal ended up being enough as LC keeper Emma Setty was at goal for the shutout.

LC's Madison Wills was next to score, gaining her goal with 13:11 left in the opening half off a rebound on a shot attempted by Scott. Scott made it a 3-0 score as her second of what turned into three goals went to the back of the net with 1:52 left in the half. The assist went to Shelby Stewart.
In the second half, LC had goals from Hannah West (37:55) off a pass from Ryleigh Jackson, Scott (34:48) and then Jackson go into the scoring with a goal with 30:00 on the clock as the assist went to Brandi Hunter. The final goal came with 11:34 left in the match with Alexa Cochran scoring with the assist by Hunter.
The win moves LC to 9-2 overall. FHS falls to 4-5 overall.
LC plays again on Monday, Oct. 1 when they host Miami Trace in a non-league match at LCHS, starting at 6 p.m.
