Lady Lions win 12th game of season; top Manchester

MANCHESTER — On what was described as a "beautiful day for softball on the banks of the Ohio River," the Fairfield Lady Lions defeated the Manchester Lady Greyhounds, 13-0, for a Southern Hills League win.
The Lady Lions enter the final week of SHL play with a one-game lead over the Peebles Lady Indians and a two-game lead over the Fayetteville Lady Rockets.
FHS is 12-1 overall and 9-0 in the SHL.
Fairfield junior Lauren Larrick pitched a three-hit shutout to pick up her 12th win of the season and her fifth shutout of the year.
But again, the Lady Lion offense tallied 12 hits, as they scored 12 runs on 11 hits in the top of the second inning, sending 17 batters to the plate, which sealed the win.
Kylie Bates, a senior, had two hits in the inning, knocking in three runs.
Leading hitters for the Lady Lions included: Bates (2-for-2, one run, three RBIs), Heather Huff (2-for-4, one run, one RBI), Danielle Butler (1-for-3, one run), Abby Thackston (1-for-3, one run, one RBI), Whitney Hanenkrat (1-for-1, three runs, two RBIs), Larrick (2-for-2, double, two runs), Shelby Smithson (2-for-3, double, two runs, two RBIs) and Jade Shelton (1-for-2, one run, two RBIs).
Larrick improves to 12-1 in the circle this season. She pitched five innings, allowing no runs with three hits and no walks. She finished with eight strikeouts.
