Lady Lions take sole possession of 1st place

FAYETTEVILLE — The Fairfield Lady Lions have rebounded in a hurry.
After losing their first Southern Hills League match on Tuesday, they came back and took sole possession of first place in the league with a four-game match victory Thursday, defeating the host Fayetteville Lady Rockets.
FHS won the first set by a score of 25-23, then the Lady Rockets tied the match with a game two win of 25-15. The Lady Lions won the third and fourth games by scores of 25-18 and 25-21.
Whitney Hanenkrat and Makenna Corzatt each had 16 attacks; while Brenna Simmons had 10 attacks. Sarah Putnam had seven blocks.
"The entire team played really well," FHS coach MaryBeth Hodson said. "Sarah had some great blocks against the Fayetteville line. Kaley (Davis) and Sydney (Corzatt) did a great job at controlling the game and covering the net."
FHS will play again on Friday as they travel to face the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors in a non-league game at 5:30 p.m.
The win improves FHS to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in the SHL.
