Lady Lions suffer first SHAC loss of season

On the first of three consecutive road games in three days, the Fairfield Lady Lions tripped up at Fayetteville, suffering their first Southern Hills Athletic Conference loss of the season, falling by an 11-1 score in six innings via the run-rule.
Even with the loss, the Lady Lions maintain a one-game lead over second place Fayetteville.
The Lady Rockets lost 9-1 to the Lady Lions last week at Fairfield.

The Lady Lions (7-1, 12-2) scored their lone run in the top of the third inning, beginning with Halie Chain doubling off the fence in centerfield with one out. Shaylee Carson advanced Chain to third base on a sacrifice bunt, and Heather Sanderson hit a line drive single to left field to score Chain.
Chain, Grace Larrick, Sanderson and Kourtnie Smith combined for the four Lady Lion hits.
Arica Melson (9-1) suffered her first loss of the season for Fairfield. She pitched five innings, allowing 11 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits and two walks. She finished the game with seven strikeouts.
Claire Carson (7-4) picked up the win for Fayetteville. In six innings, she allowed one earned run on four hits and no walks, finishing with two strikeouts.
The Fairfield Lady Lions hit the road again Wednesday for another Southern Hills Athletic Conference game as they travel to West Union.
