Lady Lions shut out by visiting Williamsburg

LEESBURG — The Williamsburg Lady Wildcats came to Highland County Tuesday and left with a big non-conference win over the host Fairfield Lady Lions by an 11-0 score at FHS.
The first half saw Williamsburg score eight goals for a halftime lead of 8-0.
Williamsburg scored their first goal with 38:18 on the clock with a goal from Lily Williford, followed by a goal from Emma Beesten at the 37:28 mark for a 2-0 lead over FHS.

Next, the lead increased to three goals with the goal coming off the foot of Emma Cummins at 31:31, and a few minutes later, a goal by Emily Hart made the lead 4-0 with 27:56 left on the first-half clock.
Williamsburg increased their lead to 5-0 following a goal by Brooklyn Applegate at 30:12. Following a change at keeper, the Lady Wildcats added three more goals in the first half.
WHS made it a six-goal advantage with 23:05 on the scoreboard following a goal from Kaitlyn Gregory, then they added another goal — their seventh of the match — with a kick from Maddie Fawley for a 7-0 lead.
The final goal of the first half was from Allie Doss for the eight-goal lead at halftime.
There were three goals scored in the second half by the Lady Wildcats with Gregory scoring a goal at the 15:30 mark, followed with a goal with 14:25 remaining by Kirstyn Thomas. The final goal was scored with 30 seconds left in the match off a kick from Camille McManus.
Fairfield head coach Sam Spargur spoke about his team and how it wasn’t the outcome they wanted, but they are still working to improve.
“We are still working to improve, but we have trouble getting players where we want them to be on the field, and we are just struggling,” he said. “Olivia Bellamy came in at goalie and played hard for us. She came in and played well for us. She had some good dives and some good effort with a couple saves.”
Next for the Lady Lions is a Southern Hills Athletic Conference match on Friday vs. Lynchburg-Clay.
“We are going to work more this week, and we might change the lineup around some to see if we can get some more action out of them, and we’ll see how that plays out,” Spargur said.
