Lady Lions shut out visiting North Adams, 12-0

LEESBURG — Having a mix of hard line drives and even more power with two home runs, the Fairfield Lady Lions used that with yet another near hitless pitching effort for a Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory against the visiting North Adams Lady Green Devils.
The Tuesday night win by the host Lady Lions was their 11th of the season, keeping them in the driver’s seat as the leaders of the SHAC (Division II) with what turned into a 12-0 win over the Lady Green Devils at FHS.
“We had a really good start to the week, but we are really young, but we are starting to gel, and they are really coming along,” FHS head coach Mark Dettwiller said. “Defensively, we are getting there. We faced a good, state-caliber pitcher and were just able to get the ball in play.”
Fairfield (11-2) led by a score 9-0 in the sixth inning, and they ended the game for what was a six-inning run-rule with a three-run home run off the bat of Lauren Arnold.
Getting to that point of the game for the Lady Lions saw them total 12 hits, including two home runs, along with two walks and two sacrifices.
FHS scored their first runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning with three runs, as Kelcey Smith, Shania Setty and Lyndee Spargur all rounded the bases in an inning where the Lady Lions totaled three hits and one walk, plus reached the bases on an error and passed ball on a third strike.
Building a three-run lead just wasn’t enough for the Lady Lions, as they turned that quickly into a six-run advantage the very next inning with Emily Williams reaching base on an infield error and then scoring on a two-run home run off the bat of Smith for a 5-0 lead with no outs.

That lead went to six runs with Arnold scoring a run later in the inning, as she reached the bases with a double.
Fairfield scored two more runs in the fourth frame as Megan Gragg (who was the courtesy runner for Kaiti White, who reached the bases on an error) and Smith scored runs. Both runners scored off a two-base hit by Arnold, which made it an 8-0 FHS lead through four innings.
FHS closed out the game in the bottom of the sixth with Gragg scoring (as White had the single to lead off the inning), off a base hit by Smith. With two runners on the bases, Arnold hit her aforementioned three-run home run to end the game with a run-rule and 12-run advantage.
Both Smith and Arnold each finished with three hits in the SHAC victory, with Smith finishing 3-for-3 and Arnold going 3-for-4. Combined, the two Lady Lions players scored five runs.
In the circle, White was dominant yet again, allowing no runs and just one hit. She totaled no walks and ended the game with four strikeouts.
White allowed just two base runners but faced the minimum 18 batters, with one batter reaching the bases in the second inning on an infield error, and the one hit came in the fourth inning, as both of those innings had double plays.
