On Friday evening, the Fairfield Lady Lions concluded their homestand with a three-game sweep of Southern Hills Athletic Conference opponents, this time by defeating the Ripley Lady Blue Jays, 12-2.
Mikayla Coleman took the circle Friday for the Fairfield Lady Lions, as Arica Melson had the day off.
In the top of the first inning with one out, Morgan Bahnsen singled up the middle, but Coleman struck out the next two Lady Blue Jays to end the inning.
In the bottom of the first inning, Grace Larrick (3-for-4, three runs, two RBIs, four steals) reached first base with a slap bunt single to the left side of the infield for the Lady Lions. She stole second base on the next pitch and advanced to third base when the throw went into centerfield.
[[In-content Ad]]Tommi Wright of RHS struck out the next two Lady Lion batters, but Cynnamon Sova-Davy singled to left field to drive in Larrick, giving the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead.
Sova-Davy finished 3-for-4, with two runs and two RBIs.
FHS scored three more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Heather Sanderson singled to right-centerfield with one out. Justice Hattan was hit by a pitch, and Kourtnie Smith was safe at first base on a force out at third base.
Hattan and Smith pulled off a double steal of third base and second base, and Larrick reached first base on a bunt single, scoring Hattan. Smith then took second base on the throw to home plate. Kaitlin Evans laced a single to centerfield to score Larrick.
RHS cut the deficit to 4-2 with two runs in the top of the third inning.
The score remained 4-2 until the Lady Lions scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Evans (3-for-4, two runs, two RBIs, two steals) reached first on a bunt single to lead off the inning and stole second base on the next pitch. Shelby Smithson singled to left field to drive in Evans. Smith later scored on a single to left field by Sova-Davy.
Shaylee Carson had a bunt single, and Sanderson followed with an RBI single to left field to drive in Sova-Davy. Hattan grounded out to the right side of the infield to score Carson.
After the third inning, Coleman was dominating in the circle, retiring a minimum nine batters in three innings.
The Lady Lions ended the game early 12-2 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Larrick singled and scored on a single to right-centerfield by Evans. Smithson doubled to the fence in left-centerfield.
Sova-Davy singled, Taylor Avedisian batting for Halie Chain walked and Shaylee Carson had an RBI single to centerfield. Sova-Davy scored on a wild pitch to end the game.
