Lady Lions fall to Fayetteville in SHL DIV. II championship game

     FAYETTEVILLE - The Fayetteville Lady Rockets repeated history Thursday night, as they took down the Fairfield Lady Lions for the second straight year to win the Southern Hills League Division II championship 67-54 at Fayetteville High School.
    The Lady Rockets led 15-10 after the first quarter. Fayetteville held the Lady Lions to 10 points again in the second quarter, while netting 18 for a halftime lead of 33-20.
    In the third, Fairfield continued to battle and won the quarter 16-13 to cut the Lady Rockets' lead to 46-36.
    FHS pressured the Lady Rockets in the fourth, slashing the Fayetteville lead to single digits, but it wasn't enough as the defending SHL Division II champions outscored the Lady Lions 21-18 in the final eight minutes.
    Fairfield senior Gabby Boone led her team with 19 points, while gaining eight rebounds, one assist and one steal.
    FHS senior Lauren Bowman sank five 3-pointers, finishing with a total of 17 points. Bowman also added five rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block.
    Chelsey Riddle netted 10 points for FHS. The junior post player also had eight rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and one assist in the SHL loss to Fayetteville.
    Senior Sadie Jones scored six points. The Lady Lion senior also earned three rebounds and two steals.
    Junior point guard Megan Sword had four rebounds, two assists, two points and one steal for the Lady Lions.
    The loss drops Fairfield to 10-8 overall, 7-5 in the SHL.
