LEESBURG — The Blanchester Lady Wildcats were able to use speed and their numbers to defeat the Fairfield Lady Lions on Tuesday by a score of 6-2 at FHS in a non-league game.
Since playing with just 10 girls (11 is standard number) for the past three games, the Lady Lions are winless, as when they fielded a full lineup they were 4-4 and now have fallen to 4-7 on the year.[[In-content Ad]]
The two FHS goals were from Kaitlin Evans, who scored one goal in each half as the Lady Wildcats led 5-1 at halftime. The first goal by Evans was assisted by Courtney Huff.
FHS coach Sam Spargur knows his team is fighting an uphill battle as they are playing with no backups and a lineup of 10 players against teams who can replace players when needed.
"These girls fight … we have no breaks, and when that happens, the field gets bigger for the girls," Sparger said. "We know how much harder playing without a full lineup is on a team. The girls are wearing out late in games, but they don't quit."
FHS will host Lynchburg-Clay this Friday.
