Lady Lions fall in 3 sets to Blanchester

LEESBURG — Wednesday saw the Fairfield Lady Lions volleyball team return to action following the Highland County Fair week, and though they played close, they were unable to defend their home court.
The loss came against the visiting Blanchester Lady Wildcats in three sets, by scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-23.
For the Lady Lions, Sarah Buddelmeyer led with 40 assists, while Tristen Collins had two kills and five blocks. Shaylee Carson collected five digs.
Teammate Justice Hattan had two kills and six digs. Also for FHS, Casey Carter totaled two blocks.
FHS is winless on the season.
"We are learning to fight through a lot of different adversity with injuries and the losses," FHS head coach Deanne Miller said. "We have to continue to work on facing and battling through that adversity.
"We had seniors who stepped up (Wednesday), and Tristen (Collins) was good at the middle of the net. Shaylee (Carson) at libero had some very critical digs and saves. She kept us in that third set."
As for the first set, BHS built a 10-2 lead, with the two points from FHS by Collins, while BHS had points from Sarah Burton and Hannah Wisniewski.
Later in the first set, Blake Adams of FHS brought the Lady Lions to within three points of tying the score at 10-7, but from there, the set was dominated by BHS for the 25-11 win.

In the second set, which FHS lost 25-18, Hattan had a block for the second FHS point of the set, but BHS eventually built a lead of 14-6.
FHS began to battle back with points from Carter on hard spikes to make it a 16-10 score, but BHS answered with points on serves for a 19-14 lead.
Kayla Duggar of BHS put the Lady Wildcats ahead 24-15 with an ace, and the set ended with a point by Duggar.
Set three was the closest of all with FHS scoring the first five points, with help from Buddelmeyer and Collins.
Later, the score was tied at 10-10, then FHS built a lead of 18-13.
As the score continued to grow closer, Collins put FHS ahead by two at 20-18, and later, Ciara Knisley had a point to put the Lady Lions ahead by four points at 23-19.
But FHS was unable to hold on for the set, with BHS eventually tying the score at 23-23, and then scoring the final two points to win the match.
