Lady Lions end season in district semifinals

The 2015 girls soccer season for the Fairfield Lady Lions came to a close on Wednesday evening, as the No. 4 seeded Fairfield squad fell to the No. 8 seeded Zane Trace Lady Pioneers, 4-1.

In the Division III SE District Semifinal match held at Waverly High School, the Lady Pioneers scored the first two goals of the match in the first half for a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Lions reached the scoreboard with their first goal of the match with around 3:00 left in the first half off the foot of Abigail Newkirk, cutting the Zane Trace lead in half.

With the score at 2-1 at halftime, Zane Trace came back with two more goals in the second half as Morgan Miller of ZT had a hat-trick.

Newkirk scored the second and final FHS goal in the match late in the second half to make the score at the time, 3-2, but ZT later answered with a goal in the final minutes of the match.

For the postseason, the Lady Lions went 1-1, winning a sectional title last week.
