Lady Lions defeat visiting Fayetteville

For the second time in three games this week, the Fairfield Lady Lions walked off the court of Grandle Gymnasium with a victory, this time winning in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play by defeating the visiting Fayetteville Lady Rockets by a 69-39 score.

Fairfield’s win moves them to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SHAC.

The Thursday night win by the Lady Lions saw them score 12 points in the first frame, and by the end of the first half they had a total of 38 points after scoring 26 points in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, FHS tacked on 18 points and with the game well in hand scored 13 points in the final eight minute frame.

Leading Fairfield in scoring were Grace Shope and Samara Cannon with 14 points each. Shope made two two-point field goals, two 3-pointers and was 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. Cannon connected with four two-point field goals and two 3-pointers.

Blake Adams was right there with them, scoring 13 points against Fayetteville. The senior made five two-point field goals and was a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. Rounding out the double-figure scoring was Lyndee Spargur, who totaled 10 points for the Lady Lions.

Also scoring points for the Lady Lions on Thursday night were Ashley Sowards with seven (one 3-pointer), Molly Thackston with five, Brianna Barnes with four and Kami Magee with two.

Next for the Lady Lions is a game Monday night when they host the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats (0-2) at FHS at 7:30 p.m.
