Fairfield sophomore Kaiti White earned the highest of accolades to complete the 2017 high school softball season, as she was selected Division IV First-Team All-Ohio by the Ohio Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association.
White finished the season with 191 strikeouts with 33 runs allowed, but just 16 were earned in 129 innings.
For the season, she totaled 11 shutouts and ended the season with a 20-2 overall record. With the win in the regional semifinals over Portsmouth Clay, White became the first FHS pitcher to have back-to-back 20-win seasons.
This postseason, the sophomore finished with 41 strikeouts while allowing 18 runs (eight earned) with just two walks in five games.
White played a vital role in the postseason run of the Lady Lions, a postseason where she pitched with a leg injury. Before losing in the regional finals, the Lady Lions defeated Western Latham (15-0), Southern (12-8), Peebles (10-1) and Portsmouth Clay (7-2). This postseason, the Lady Lions outscored their opponents, 45-18 in five games. During the regular season, White was a part of a 13-0 perfect conference season in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference.
White also performed at the plate this season. In the first 21 games (FHS played in 22 games), White batted .543 with a .771 slugging percentage and a .633 on-base percentage. For the entire season, White collected 33 RBIs with 13 doubles, 38 total hits and one home run.
“Kaiti hurt her foot (near the end of the season) and (had) bone spurs, and she’s played through that. (She gave her) heart and soul every day,” FHS head coach Mark Dettwiller said following the regional final game.
