Kaiti White pitches a one-hitter as Fairfield shuts out Lynchburg-Clay

LEESBURG – The second through fourth innings were very good to the Fairfield Lady Lions in their Southern Hills Athletic Conference matchup against the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs on Wednesday. In fact, in those innings, the Lady Lions scored nine of their total runs as they went on to defeat their Highland County rival, 10-0 in six innings.
The Lady Lions (1-0, 2-0) not only totaled nine hits, two walks and 10 runs as a team, but defensively they committed just one error and did all of that behind a very strong pitching effort from senior Kaiti White, who earned her second win of the season.

Offensively for the Lady Lions, they were tied at zero with LCHS at the end of the first inning but gained their first run of the game in the bottom of the first, followed by consecutive four-run innings in the third and fourth and later sealing the game in six innings with a one-run sixth inning.
“This was a good win. The girls played well as a team, and we had solid defense,” Fairfield head coach Mark Dettwiller said. “I’m extremely happy with what we are seeing out of the entire senior group. They are a solid bunch. We are happy all in all where we are at right now, but we still have a lot of work to do to get where we want to be.”
The first run of the game was scored off a throwing error as Lauren Arnold crossed home plate following a throw to first base. Arnold, a senior, initially reached the bases on a throwing error.
In the bottom of the third, Fairfield had the first of two four-run innings, starting off with a one-out walk by Lyndee Spargur, followed by a single off the bat of Megan Gragg, where Spargur (1-for-2, two walks, one RBI) scored a run. Next was White, as she knocked in Gragg with a base hit. Gragg ended the game 3-for-4 with two runs.
With two outs, the third-inning scoring was complete for Fairfield as both Layla Hattan (who singled) and White scored runs off a base hit by Taylor Lawson for a 5-0 lead. Hattan finished 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
In the bottom of the fourth, Halle Hamilton, Spargur, Gragg and Hatten all scored runs to make it a 9-0 advantage for Fairfield. Gaining RBIs in the inning were Spargur and Hattan (two).
The game ended in the bottom of the sixth inning as Hattan scored a run off an infield throwing error.
For the game, FHS out-hit the Lady Mustangs, 9-1 as LCHS committed seven errors and FHS had one error.
LC ended the game with one hit, and that was off the bat of Serah Whitacre in the first at-bat of the game.
White (2-0) was the winning pitcher and did so in dominating fashion. After allowing a hit in the first at-bat, she went on to not allow another hit for the remainder of the game. White pitched six innings, where she allowed no runs and walked none. She faced 19 batters in the win, striking out 14 batters for the game.
“Kaiti has two shutouts and has allowed three hits in those two games, plus she has 30 strikeouts in the first two games of the season,” Dettwiller said. “She’s really throwing the ball well right now.”
Next for Fairfield is a game Saturday, March 30, as they are scheduled to face the Paint Valley Lady Bearcats of the Scioto Valley Conference at 11 a.m.
