Hunter Dixon tosses no-hitter; Lions sweep DH against G-Men

Fairfield’s Hunter Dixon was untouchable on Saturday, throwing a no-hitter in the Lions’ shutout, 10-0 non-conference victory over the Georgetown G-Men.
Dixon tossed the no-hitter for the Lions by striking out seven batters, while having two walks. The final out of the game was a ground out. The no-hitter included five innings where Dixon totaled 63 pitches, 43 for strikes. Dixon totaled nine first-pitch strikes.
In the no-hitter, Dixon forced two fly ball outs and foul tip to the catcher in the first inning, followed by two strikeouts and a player caught stealing (following a walk) in the second inning. The third inning saw Dixon force a ground out, a strikeout, a walk and the inning ended with a strikeout.
In the fourth, Dixon had a called third strike for the strikeout, a ground out to second base and a ground out back to the pitcher’s mound to retire the side in order. In the fifth, Dixon forced a ground out to first base, a strikeout and the game ended with a ground out to second base to complete the no-hitter.
The Fairfield offense produced eight hits, all singles.

FHS scored four runs in the fifth including an RBI single by Cody Gragg, an RBI single by Klay Walker, a hit-by-pitch and an RBI base hit by Sam Buddelmeyer.
Austin Setty led the Lions as he reached the bases three times, including a single in the fifth inning. Setty finished 1-for-2 with three runs and two walks. Gragg was 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Also with hits in the game were Walker, Mitchell Rose, Buddelmeyer, Dixon, and Mason Cain.
For the game the Lions had eight hits and six walks.
In the nightcap of the doubleheader on Saturday at FHS, the Lions defeated the G-Men, 12-3.
The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the first, followed by the Lions scoring four runs in the second on a wild pitch, an RBI double by Walker, a sacrifice fly by Gragg and an RBI single by Rose. Walker racked up two RBIs on three hits for FHS.
After the G-Men scored three runs in the top of the third, the Lions answered with one run in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and two final runs in the sixth inning. For the game, FHS totaled eight hits.
Gragg held Georgetown hitless over 3.1 innings on the mound for the win, allowing no earned runs with no walks and five strikeouts. Andrew Dingey pitched in relief. allowing three runs over three innings. Dingey struck out three, walked three and gave up two hits.
