Girls Soccer Recap: Hillsboro, Fairfield and McClain bow out of sectionals

Lady Indians upset in sectional semifinals

The Hillsboro Lady Indians entered the 2017 Division II SE District Tournament with a home match against conference foe Miami Trace, a team they defeated twice in the regular season. On Tuesday, though, it was a different story with the Lady Indians unable to get their offense going, eventually losing in the sectional semifinal match by a 1-0 score.

The Lady Indians were the the No. 4 seed, and Miami Trace was the No. 5 seeded team. HHS defeated Miami Trace during the regular season in Frontier Athletic Conference play by scores of 2-1 (Sept. 28) and 4-1 (Sept. 12).

Tuesday was a whole different story for the Lady Indians as they had trouble getting shots off in the first half, and Miami Trace keeper Aubrey Schwartz stopped all shots that went her way, along with help from a strong performance from the MT defense.

Hillsboro had their opportunities to score goals but just were off-target in those chances. The score was tied at zero when halftime arrived.

Miami Trace won the match off their lone goal with 3:56 left in the match by Tori Morrison.

For the sectional semifinal match, the Lady Indians totaled 13 shots on goal and 23 total shots. HHS keeper Riley Moberly totaled six saves in the match.

Seniors for the Lady Indians included 11 players, as they are: Taryn Magulac, Riley Moberly, Natalie Sullivan, Madi Marsh, Ellie Howland, Morgan Holland, Tessa Ernst, Ellie Elmore, Aidan Chaney, Ashleigh Baucom and Kaley Burns.

The Lady Indians finish the season with a 6-9-2 overall record, and they were 6-4 in the FAC. Miami Trace will now face the FAC champion Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers on Saturday, Oct. 21 at noon.

McClain Lady Tigers lose to Circleville

The McClain Lady Tigers had their season come to a close in the Division II SE District Tournament, losing in the sectional semifinals to the host Circleville Lady Tigers by a 6-0 score.

The loss ends McClain’s season at 2-14-1 overall with their two wins coming against West Union and Washington. MHS also tied Washington this season.

No. 6 seeded MHS trailed by a 2-0 score at halftime and midway through the second half trailed by a 4-0 score, before ultimately allowing two final goals in the final 20 minutes of action against the No. 3 seeded Circleville squad.

Seniors for the McClain Lady Tigers include Hannah Smith, Madison Robinett and Payton Smith.

Circleville will play in the sectional finals on Saturday, Oct. 21 against Unioto.

Fairfield Lady Lions end season at Eastern Brown

The Fairfield Lady Lions had their season ended on Tuesday night, falling in the Division III SE District Sectional Finals to the host Eastern Brown Lady Warriors by a 3-0 score.

Fairfield entered the match as the No. 6 seed, and Eastern Brown was the No. 3 seeded team.

Seniors for the Lady Lions include Shay Turner, Annya Sheppard, Aubrey Drabik, Rylie McKinley, Kodi Haynes and Ashley Moore.

Eastern will play in the district semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. against Alexander at Waverly High School.
