Fourth quarter sends Fairfield Lady Lions to loss against Williamsburg

After three quarters, the Fairfield Lady Lions and the Williamsburg Lady Wildcats were tied at 40 points each, but a fourth frame where the host Williamsburg squad took control sent Fairfield to a 53-45 road non-conference loss.
Fairfield’s offensive success was much better in the first half than compared to the final two quarters, where the Lady Lions led 14-12 at the end of the first frame, and after a 19-16 second frame in their favor, Fairfield held a 33-28 halftime lead.
The second half things changed when Williamsburg won the third quarter at 12-7 for a 40-40 tied score, but the fourth quarter was mostly the Lady Wildcats as they won the frame at 13-5, sending the Lady Lions to an eight-point loss.

in the aforementioned first half, Fairfield (8-4) saw their 14-point first-quarter scoring come from 3-pointers by both Emma Fouch and Peyton Magee, plus four points from Madison Bronner and two points each by Ella Newkirk and Hailey Tolle.
In the second frame, Newkirk broke out for 12 points, including two 3-pointers, two two-point baskets and two made free throws. Also in the second, Paris Priest sank a 3-pointer, and with two points each were Haines and Tolle.
In the seven-point third frame for the Lady Lions, scoring included four points by Bronner and three points from Magee. The five-point fourth frame saw all five points by Fouch, including a 3-pointer.
Newkirk led Fairfield with 14 points as she finished with three two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and she was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Fouch and Bronner each totaled eight points for the game, while Magee collected six points in the loss. Rounding out the final scoring for FHS were Tolle with four points, Priest with three points and Haines with two points.
The Lady Lions totaled 12 two-point baskets, six 3-pointers and they were 3-of-5 from the free-throw line.
Williamsburg was led by Paige Fisher with 13 points, followed by Kirstyn Thomas with 12 points and Kiana Dauwe with 11 points.
WHS totaled 17 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and they were 13-of-20 from the free-throw line.
Next for the Lady Lions is a non-conference game on Saturday, Jan. 4 as they are scheduled to host the McClain Lady Tigers at Grandle Gymnasium.
