Fairfield’s Blake Adams throws in state discus, shot put events at OSU

Fairfield senior Blake Adams ended her successful high school athletic career by representing the Fairfield Lady Lions at the OHSAA Division III State Track and Field Championships Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Adams — who also qualified for state in the shot put last season as a junior — competed in two state events this year, beginning her day in the discus event and later in the afternoon competing in the shot put event for the second time in her state career.

On Friday in the discus event, Adams placed 13th overall with a best throw of 114-01. In her three throws, she had her best throw in the first round at with the aforementioned 114-01, followed by a second throw at 111-09 and then a foul on the third and final throw.
In the shot put event, Adams finished in 11th place with a distance of 37-00.00.
Getting to the state championships this season saw Adams have a regional discus distance of 115-04 to be the regional runner-up and a regional shot put distance of 37-06.75 for third place.
At districts this year, Adams placed third in the discus with a distance of 116-01, and she was also third in the shot put at 37-02.50. At the Southern Hills Athletic Conference Championships, Adams was the shot put champion with a throw of 38-02.50 and second in discus at 110-00.
The state discus event was won by Liberty-Benton junior Chloe Miller with a throw of 140-02. In second place was Malvern senior Kelsi Hulit at 137-06. Next in third place was Swanton senior Sidney Taylor at 133-06. The fourth-place spot went to Newton Falls senior Izzy Kline at 130-01, and in fifth place was Newton Falls sophomore Libby Barreca with a throw of 128-06.
In sixth place in the state discus event was Arcadia junior Samantha Watkins (127-04), and from there, the rest of the Top 10 included Covington junior Lauren Christian (122-11), Columbus Academy senior Khloe Dubenion (121-05), Arcadia senior Maddie Yaple (120-06) and in 10th place Botkins junior Grace Homan (120-03).
The 11th place through 16th places for state discus included Columbus Grove junior Madisyn Maag (120-02), McDonald senior Olivia Loves (115-07), Adams (114-01), Ottoville junior Brynlee Hanneman (113-02), Ashland Crestview freshman Raegan Garrett (112-11) and Wheelersburg junior Paige Emnett (105-06).
The state shot put championship in Division III was won by senior Izzy Kline of Newton Falls with a throw of 46-03.00. The state runner-up was Leipsic senior Grace Rigel at 46-00.00. In third was Covington junior Lauren Christian (44-01.50), followed by Botkins junior Grace Homan (40-07.25) and in fifth was Malvern senior Kelsi Hulit (40-03.25).
Sixth place in the state shot put went to Wheelersburg junior Paige Emnett (40-02.00), followed by Trimble sophomore Brenna Brammer (38-10.50) in seventh, Delta St. John’s sophomore Jill Gemmer (38-02.50) in eighth, North Baltimore junior Kiley Brooker (38-01.00) in ninth and Genoa junior Alexis Bryer (37-02.50).
