Fairfield wins 4th straight SHAC cross-country championship

For the fourth consecutive year, the Fairfield Lions have captured the Southern Hills Athletic Conference overall team championship, racing this Saturday at Ripley High School.
The varsity boys team has not lost a regular season or postseason contest in the last four years to any SHAC team.
Fairfield dominated the meet by placing seven runners in the Top 10 in a field of 75 runners.
[[In-content Ad]]"Coach Raymond Friend and I are very impressed and pleased that runners keep getting better each week," FHS assistant coach Bill Mangus said. "This is what we expect as we head into the district championship, and the last few weeks of the season."
Leading the way for the Lions and finishing runner-up was freshman Matthew Mangus with a time of 17:10.
Finishing third was Wyatt Evans (17:31) and in fourth was freshman Noah Richmond (17:46). Sixth place went to Trent Swisher, a sophomore, at (18:28).
In seventh place was sophomore Dillon Burley (18:13) and in eighth was freshman Nick Price (18:24). In 10th was Andrew Davis at 18:24.
Freshman Tucker Ayres was 12th (18:28) and in 14th was senior Dustin Willey (18:36). Senior Matthew Leach placed 28th (19:58), followed by a 31st place finish by sophomore Lane Frost (20:11) and 32nd was sophomore Mason Cain (20:14).
Fairfield did not have a complete high school varsity girls team. Running for the Fairfield varsity girls were freshman Maggie Donahue in 34th place (28:08) and sophomore Haleigh Bates in 40th place (30:11).
Named to the All-SHAC team for 2014 from Fairfield were Mangus, Evans, Richmond, Swisher, Burley, Price, Davis, Ayres and Willey. Coach Friend was also named the boys cross-country Coach of the Year for the SHAC.
The team is eyeing a fourth straight district championship on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the University of Rio Grande at 1 p.m.
