Fairfield runners win at Unioto

Fresh off a successful Highland County Invitational performance, the Fairfield High School cross-country teams traveled to Ross County to the Unioto Cross-Country Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 6.
Michael Mangus captured his fourth straight victory with a time of 15:56 to runner-up Ethan Richter of Unioto's 16:24. Following Mangus for Fairfield was Blake Hildebrant placing eighth with a time of 16:52. Also racing for Fairfield were Wyatt Crothers, 17:50; John Cain, 18:17; Matthew Leach, 18:21; Dustin Willey, 18:23; Brant Huff, 19:42; and Jacob Rammel, 21:58. The FHS boys team finished runner-up of 20 schools to champion and host, Unioto.
The Fairfield High School girls did not field a full team but had three girls compete. Kaitlin Evans was Fairfield's top finisher, coming in 17th with a time of 21:43. Kaylee Crum finished with a time of 23:14, and Brenna Simmons had a time of 24:47.
The middle school boys dominated the field and finished with a very low score of 26 to defeat runner-up Unioto. For the second time in less than a week, Wyatt Evans finished as the individual champion with a time of 11:22 for two miles.

Following Evans were Klay Walker, 3rd with a time of 11:43; Trent Tate, 5th with a time of 12:06; Matthew Mangus, 6th with a time of 12:23; Noah Richmond, 12th with a time of 12:45; Kadyn Lamb, 13th with a time of 12:51; and Mason Cain, 18th with a time of 13:03. Other FHS runners included Tucker Ayres, 13:13; Dustin Huff, 13:27; Clayton Jacobs, 13:42; Bailee Willey, 13:54; Andrew Davis,14:02; Nick Price, 14:31; Jason Moelle, 14:43; Brayden Heizer, 15:48; Skyler Moon, 16:01; and Elijah Knisley, 19:33.
The middle school girls finished second with a score of 64. The winner was Westfall, who had a score of 44.
Grace Shope won for the second time in less than a week with a time of 12:58.
Following Shope were Codi Haynes in 16th with a time of 14:19, along with Carly Arnold, 15:03; Lauren Greene, 16:16; Andrea Spears, 16:04; Riley McKinley, 17:57; and Maggie Donahue, 17:59.
The teams will travel to Ripley Saturday, Oct. 13 for the Southern Hills League Championships. The middle school girls will run at 10 a.m.; middle school boys, 10:30; high school girls, 11:15; and high school boys, noon.
